Whooping Cough
Important Community Health Update – Whooping Cough
Kia ora whānau,
A whooping cough epidemic has been declared across Aotearoa. It’s serious for pēpi (babies), tamariki, and hapū māmā (pregnant mums). Let’s work together to keep our whānau safe and healthy!
1. Pregnant mums: Get your free Boostrix vaccine from 16 weeks of pregnancy.
2. Tamariki: Make sure your babies and kids are up to date with their vaccinations. Contact your GP for catch-ups if needed.
3. Whānau: Anyone around hapū māmā or pēpi should get vaccinated to help keep them safe.
4. Watch for symptoms: Severe coughing fits, sometimes with a “whoop” sound. See your GP if you’re worried.
5. Stop the spread: Wash hands, cover coughs, and stay home if you’re unwell.
Talk to your doctor, nurse, or midwife for support. Together, we can protect our whānau!
