Tamariki Ora

The Tamariki Ora Team is here to support you to maximise your child’s development, health and wellbeing from birth to five years of age, establishing a strong foundation for a healthy childhood. The team can offer support and guidance with the growth and development of your child. They can provide information on parenting, nutrition, breastfeeding, immunisation, sleep and safety.

The team includes experienced registered nurses trained in Tamariki Ora/Well child development. They can provide you with:

• The knowledge and skills to respond to your child’s needs at the different stages of your child’s development.
• Reassurance that your child is developing normally through growth and development assessments.
• Information about the provision of immunisations.
• Support and help to identify your needs as a parent and link you with the community and other services.

An important member of the team is the Whanau Support Worker who can help you access the resources and information that can assist you as a parent.

Tamariki Ora/Well child checks follow the National Tamariki Ora/Well Child schedule with assessments at;

• 4-6 weeks
• 8-10 weeks
• 3-4 months
• 5-7 months
• 9-12 months
• 15-18 months
• 2-3 years

Tamariki Ora/Well Child checks can be co-ordinated with your child’s immunisations at Te Puna Hauora Clinics.

To assist with your child’s development, referrals can be made to external services such as speech therapists, paediatricians, behavioural management as well as the wrap around services provided by Te Puna Hauora.
