Te Puna Hauora`s Open Day

20 April 2024

Te Puna’s Open Day was a triumph in every way that mattered! The inclement weather did nothing to dampen anyone’s spirits. Throughout the cold, rainy morning and mid-afternoon whanau came in their dozens to check out the offerings - and they were not disappointed.  Aroha and awhi, giving and receiving, singing and laughter filled the place.  Tamariki had the best fun. For them there were twisted balloons, fingernail polishing, moko stencilling, books to read, plus loads of candy floss, popcorn, churros, and slushies.

Te Puna’s huge, generous heart was on full display.  Spot prizes, gifts and giveaways abounded throughout the joy-filled day. Staff were revved up and eager to korero with people about healthcare and social services. Kaumatua and kuia were encouraged to attend the fortnightly programme.  Mama with pepi were invited to consider Tamariki Ora services.  Some tangata were interested in education around bowel screening.  Some got their flu vaccination.  Others were keen to know more about adult mental health and addiction services, whānau advocacy, and budgeting support. Still others wanted more korero and guidance around tikanga Māori, all of which we eagerly obliged.

Time and space will fail to tell of the many wonderful connections and strengthened relationships made on that day.  They say one picture paints a thousand words so we will let the photos from that day do the talking.
